Neurological Rehabilitation

According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, in America today...

  • An estimated 1.5 million people have Parkinson’s disease, with about 60,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
  • Stroke is the third leading cause of death, with more than 700,000 people affected every year. It is a leading cause of serious long-term disability, with an estimated 5.4 million stroke survivors currently alive today.
  • Every year, between 1.4 and 2 million people sustain head injuries, and 80,000 to 90,000 people experience the onset of long-term or lifelong disabilities associated with these injuries.

Many problems, conditions, disorders, and diseases that strike our bodies can be treated or helped. While most of these cannot actually be cured, there are techniques that can be used to help the body and mind to overcome obstacles, slow down the progression of the disease, or simply learn how to cope with the loss of abilities and be able to compensate for those losses so that people may live life to the full.

According to the Ohio State Medical Center, neurological rehabilitation's goal is to "[help] the individual to return to the highest level of function and independence, and [improve] the overall quality of life for that individual - physically, emotionally, and socially."
